About me and my pictures …

I am always on the look-out for new experiences.
My painting comes from inspirations and thought processes that frequently develop their own dynamic as they appear on the canvas.
What I feel during my work with the various materials, I find almost impossible to articulate in words. Even for me, it's partly a mystery.
I like to create tension by using powerful colours and striking contrasts.
A contrasting juxtaposition of abstract colourfulness into which naturalist elements often creep in.
Characteristic are the superimposed layers. Yet the superimpositions allow the eye to glimpse the layers underneath.

To me, painting is implementation in an own language.
I would like to invite the viewer, the beholder, to come on a walk through my garden of ideas. In this way, I hope that one or the other - by looking at the pictures - will connect back to the soul of the painter.

Technique - a combination of oil and acrylic

It was during my schooldays that I first discovered the pleasure of creative work. Following my training as a painter, this inclination was maintained by painting decorations. During the rebuilding of my parents' house and other activities, I simply did not have the time to indulge my passion for painting. It was all the more strongly, then, that I was (re)seized by an artistic fever on reaching the age of 45. And this led to me signing up for an eight-semester course at the Evening School of Design in Zurich. Since then, I have attended other colleges both in Switzerland and abroad.

What the papers say …

"The Wiesendangen-based artist always succeeds in building a special tension into his pictures. Abstract forms, colourful surfaces, lines and glazes characterise Edwin Wuhrmann's style. Inspired by cubism, he keeps on developing his work further. Yet his pictures also reflect a certain tranquillity and contemplation".
Thurgauer Zeitung

"At first glance, Wuhrmann's works trigger such fundamental reflections and persuade (the beholder) into solidarity with their inner beauty and with their lonely harmony relating to language and colourful elaboration".
Pino Bonanno, art critic
